Effortless Technique

How it all began...

HELLO THERE!

I'm Cassandra

About me...

I started playing the flute at age 9, and had about 7 different teachers by the time I finished High School.

After finishing school, I was going to be a veterinarian but somehow Music choose me. I had never practised everyday in my life, so I spent the first year out of school doing work experience with the Royal Australian Military College (RMC) Army Band in Canberra and then doing my Music Degree in Darwin Australia.

I went back to Darwin to visit my Family for a holiday and did an audition at the university. I was given the opportunity as part of my degree to perform with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra. This was an amazing opportunity, as the DSO is an ABC Orchestra, and that was not something most university students would get the opportunity to do!

After graduating with a BMUS I wanted to perform so decided to join the Army as a professional Musician and had to complete my solider training.

My Army Career was cut short and in 2007 was medically discharged from the Army. I continued to play with amateur orchestras and continued to work on my playing. However in 2011 after the Australian Young Performers Award Concerto Competition - I found that I was in too much pain and I couldn't play anymore. after 4 years of beign unable to play more more than 5 mins without extreme pain that mean the end of my flute playing.

In 2016 I found I could play again, not only could I play but my playing had improved in that 4 years of not playing. I entered the Townsville International Vocal and Concerto Competition with the same concerto I had played 4 years earlier with only 10hrs playing in the six weeks before competing, including 2 1 hour sessions with the accompanist before performing.

That was when I knew for sure there was something incredible about my method. Later I came to find neuroscience to explain why my method worked and why the elements and the specific way I learned and practiced gave me an incredible sense of calm and not needing to over practice or to practice to be sure I could play it.

Dreams really do come true!

My dream...

My dream since I was 18 was to enter the Young Australians Concerto Competition...

After my medical discharge at age 25 from the Australian Army, where I was employed as a full time professional flautist.

I though that dream was gone...that I was too unwell and had missed my chance to enter it.

However magically in 2010 at the age of 29, by complete serendipity, I found out I could enter in 2011 I was wanting to enter the prestigious Australian Young Performers Award - an internationally recognised Concerto Competition.

My health was at a point I had not played for 9 months and after 20mins of playing was physically fatigued. I was advised by a trusted and respected flute teacher not to enter the competition as others would be doing 10-14hrs practice a day - I was only capable of 30mins practice every second or third day.

Long story short - Effortless Technique was born through my deep desire and knowing I had to enter that competition, the opportunity came out in such a divine way, I felt I just had to find a way to be able to compete. The preparations to compete in that competition - in 3 months I had to learn Mozart's Flute Concerto in G (30mins) along with 6 other pieces totally over an hours worth of playing.

Get RESULTS like these Students!

One of my star students came to me at age 9, after learning violin at school and not enjoying it. She blew me away how quickly she could learn. In 8 weeks she learned to play all the notes and read the music that usually takes the first year or two of playing.

Another Student, she figured out by accident that if she learned the piece the special way I teach it in the lesson, the next week without practicing before her next lesson she was shocked when she could play the piece like she knew it in her next lesson!

I had a student recently who had got up to around 2nd grade and had not played since primary school. At 25 he wanted to learn the flute again. In just 5 lessons, he was back to playing scales snd was starting third grade pieces
